My Name

In the chapter "My Name" Esperanza inherited her grandmothers name. Esperanza says she doesn’t like her name. In Spanish it means sadness, waiting, she said it’s like the number 9 and a very ugly color. She also said it is the Mexican records her father plays on Sunday mornings while he shaves. In English her name only means Hope. Esperanza starts to talk about how she is much like her grandmother. Esperanza states that she does not want to end up like her grandmother did. She really wanted to meet her. She was very wild, she was unable to marry which disappointed her dad so he put a sack over her head and carried her away.
